Burton @ MoMA

January 24, 2010

Popped in to see the Tim Burton retrospective at MoMA this morning with T and E. Given that I like dark and macabre, the exhibit was a lot of fun. There were a ton of paper sketches, some larger scale sculptures and of course movie memorabilia, including some from my favorite Burton productions, Beetlejuice and Nightmare before Christmas.

Here’s a sampling of my favorite Burton characters:

Boy with the nails in his eyes & Oyster Boy

Oogie Boogie Man

Beetlejuice & Shrunken Head (remember when he shrinks beetlejuice’s head? so classic)

If you’re in the NY area, it’s worth a quick look. I wouldn’t say it’s mind blowing, but I suppose its more creative than some of the other nonsense that passes for art these days. Exhibition ends April 26, 2010.

Looking at his images brought back memories of three of my other favorite artists/illustrators/story tellers… Follow up in future posts!
