A Chinese millionaire reportedly paid 4 million yuan (USD 585,000) for a 18 month old Tibetan mastiff, making the dog, “Yangtze River Number Two”, the most expensive dog in the world. The owner, identified only as Mrs. Wang, fell in love with the dog when she traveled to Qinghai, a Tibetan-populated province in China. The lucky puppy was welcomed to its new home in Shangxi by a parade of dog lovers and a huge red ribbon.
I’m not sure what justifies the price that she paid, but I hope this isn’t the start of a trend. It’s fine to treat objects as status symbols, but when it comes to living things, I hope people are getting them because they want a little more love in their lives, not just another check on their luxury list. I hope this guy will be getting a lot of love and affection, even though he has a face only a mother could love.
